Gustav Steinhoff initiated and leads the RTC. Since several years he is known as an expert in the medical field of stem cell therapies. He was one of the first clinicians in 2001 to treat patients with intramyocardial transplantation of purified stem cells and is one of the pioneers of these new therapies.
Besides his medical study at the Erasmus University Rotterdam Gustav Steinhoff performed research at the Baylor College in Houston, Texas. He completed his thesis in 1987 and worked as a surgeon at the University of Kiel and the Medical School Hannover, where he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1998. In 1999 he was leader of the Department of General, Cardiac-, Vascular- and Abdominal-Surgery at the Oststadt-Hospital Hannover. In 2000 he moved to the University of Rostock as a Director and Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. There he continued his research on cardiac stem cell therapies and tissue engineering and founded in 2003 the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy, IRMED e.V.

Gudrun Tiedemann is the acting manager of the RTC and responsible for translation and coordination within the center, with external cooperation partners and experts. She is joint-founder of the “Advanced Therapies Partners GmbH” (ATP), a company developing medicinal products and offering consultancy in Regenerative Medicine. In addition she is supporting acquisition and project management in the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy, Rostock (IRMED e.V.).
Gudrun Tiedemann studied Biology. After her PhD she worked in research at the universities of Hamburg and Aachen and at the regulatory authorities in Berlin, the today’s BfArM. Afterwards she spent 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry with Biotest and Fresenius in Frankfurt in different management positions, mainly focussed on innovation management. In 1998 she became head of BioTOP - Berlin Brandenburg. This Action-Center is responsible for networking and undertakes the task to establish and develop biotechnology as an economic factor for the Region.
From 2001 until 2006 she was CEO for Biotechnology and R&D at the German Federation of pharmaceutical industry (BPI). In this position she was supporting pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies in development, registration and marketing of medicinal products and therapies, with a strong focus on Regenerative Medicine. Since 2006 she works together with Prof. Steinhoff in Rostock.

Bodo-Eckehard Strauer is member of the co-ordinating executive team of the RTC and will participate in the creation process of the reference center. Prof. Strauer is one of the most famous pioneers in the field of cardiac stem cell therapy. After his retirement from the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf he is available for a guest-professorship at the University of Rostock for the RTC.
Bodo-Eckehard Strauer did his degree as physician and his doctoral thesis at the University of Göttingen in 1966. After Specialization for Internal Medicine and Habilitation in 1973 at University of Göttingen he moved in 1974 to the University of Munich. Here he was working till 1984 at the Medical Clinic I Großhadern as assistant medical director. In 1980 he has been nominated as C3 professor. In 1984 he has been nominated as C4 professor at the Internal Clinic, Kardiology, of the University of Marburg. In 1987 he moved as C4 professor to the Medical Clinic and Policlinic of the University of Düsseldorf. Since 1990 till end of March 2009 he was working there as managing director of the Center for internal medicine and neurology of the University of Düsseldorf.

Jana Gabriel is working as project assistant at the RTC. She is responsible for all administrative tasks within the project. She is assisting the project leader co-ordinating the Co-operation of project partners and project management organisations. She is responsible for the personal and financial aspects of the project and is supporting the project leader in Event management and Advertising of the RTC.
Jana Gabriel studied Chemistry. After her diploma degree she was working for ten years as specialized sales agent in a pharmaceutical company with highly innovative products.
Because of her family situation (she has two kids now) she changed her profession and is working since 2003 as project assistant for the Co-ordinator of a Marie Curie Research Training Network at the Medical Faculty of the University of Rostock. She has lots of experiences in project management of national and international research projects.
Since October 2008 she’s working at the Clinic of Heart Surgery under Leadership of Prof. Steinhoff as project assistant at the RTC.
